چکیده

We investigate the protein expression pattern of the lamB gene in Escherichia coli LE392. The gene product LamB is an important membrane protein for maltose transport into cells but it is also exploited by bacteriophage λ for infection. Although our bacterial population is clonal, stochastic gene expression leads to a majority population with a large receptor number and a minority population with a small receptor number. We find that LamB receptor distribution p(n) of the small-n population is scale invariant, p(n) ∼ n−α, where the exponent α depends on growth conditions. A heuristic model is proposed that relates the observed exponent to the protein production rate.

Warped infinitely divisible cascades: beyond power laws

We address the definitions and synthesis of stochastic processes which possess warped scaling laws that depart from power law behaviors in a controlled manner. We define warped infinitely divisible cascading (IDC) noise, motion and random walk. We provide a theoretical derivation of the scaling behavior of the moments of their increments. We provide numerical simulations of a warped log-Normal ...

Can Power-Law Scaling and Neuronal Avalanches Arise from Stochastic Dynamics?

The presence of self-organized criticality in biology is often evidenced by a power-law scaling of event size distributions, which can be measured by linear regression on logarithmic axes. We show here that such a procedure does not necessarily mean that the system exhibits self-organized criticality. We first provide an analysis of multisite local field potential (LFP) recordings of brain acti...

The power law scaling, geometric and kinematic characteristic of faults in the Northern part of the Kerman Coal Province (KCP), Iran

According to numerous studies, there are basic and initial scaling relationship for the geometric and kinematic characteristics of faults. The study area is located in the northern part of the Kerman coal province. The statistical calculations are consisting of:  measure the surface density of faults per unite area and division of the area, determining the direction of the dominant faulting and...

Application of Rheological Modeling in Food Emulsions

Various scaling methods such as relative viscosity, Peclet and Reynolds scaling were used to find the best scaling law. Scaling and modeling of the flow curves of various model emulsions consist of Tragacanth Gum (TG) (0.5, 1 % wt), Oleic acid (5, 10% v/v) and WPI (2, 4 % wt) were investigated and the best models were selected. As these emulsions are non-Newtonian, they do not obey the usual...

A Stochastic Evolutionary Model Exhibiting Power-Law Behaviour with an Exponential Cutoff

Recently several authors have proposed stochastic evolutionary models for the growth of complex networks that give rise to power-law distributions. These models are based on the notion of preferential attachment leading to the “rich get richer” phenomenon. Despite the generality of the proposed stochastic models, there are still some unexplained phenomena, which may arise due to the limited siz...
